Working in collaboration with another agency to merge two websites into a new one, whilst simplifying the navigation and user journey.
Service:
The Challenge
NHS England and NHS Improvement were merging, which meant their websites needed to be combined and their digital offering needed to be refined in order to cater for their numerous user groups. This project needed a team well-versed in agile delivery, service design and rapid prototyping, and we were selected for the task after winning a competitive pitching process.
Merging these two websites meant combining two lots of content, links, page templates, and two types of technology. Perhaps the most challenging part of the brief was the need to create a unified website search function, which had to be intuitive, quick, and accurate.
The Solution
We opted to work in three-week sprints, whilst carrying out continuous user testing, iteration and re-testing to ensure optimum results. This environment proved to be excellent for both teams; we were able to create prototypes for the new website and build that website from the ground up, with content strategy driving the navigation, page structure and templates.
The Outcome
Working for 8-10 months, powered by research and insight, we built a new website that met all of the client’s requirements whilst following the GDS service standards for delivery. Throughout the project, we were continually tweaking and improving to help us work more efficiently, ensuring savings and better processes for stakeholders and the team.
The new website was faster, lightweight, and built in an open-source CMS which increased its stability and reliability. We successfully implemented a quick and accurate search function, and delivered an enjoyable, intuitive user journey across the website.
